Outpost Modules in Starfield are facilities that can be built on any chosen Planet. The Outpost Modules are parts of the Starfield Outposts that you can add to allow the construction of facilities that can manufacture advanced equipment, extract resources, generate power, provide storage, defenses, and more. The Starfield Outpost Modules each have their own required materials to construct, and once built, will also need resources such as power to run. This page will cover all relevant information to understand how Outpost Modules work, the resources needed to run a module, the different categories, and more.

What are the Outpost Modules in Starfield?

Outpost Modules require specific resources to be built. These resources will vary from one module to another, and they can usually be gathered while exploring a Planet/Moon, or by purchasing them from the various Vendors that you will meet in different locations. Then, once you have built the facility, make sure to check that you have the resources needed to operate them. The main thing to consider when constructing a module is producing enough power to maintain it.

To begin, first put down your Outpost Beacon, then, identify the type of Power suitable for that planet. Once you have that built, you can now move on to the Extractors, or your resource generators, then to other facilities and modules. See the list of categories that you can build on Starfield Outpost Modules:

  • Extractors - These facilities offer Resource Generation and require Power to operate
  • Power - Generates Power and provides it to the Outpost
  • Storage - Store any kind of resource such as solid, liquid, gas, or manufactured goods
  • Builders - Manufacture simple goods
  • Robots - Increases the production rate of organic, inorganic, manufactured resources
  • Crafting - Build your own stations to accommodate research, upgrades, and more
  • Defenses - Modules that can provide defense to your Outposts
  • Miscellaneous - Outpost Improvement

Extractors

  • Water Vapor
  • Chlorine
  • Chlorosilanes

The primary function of Extractors in a Starfield Outpost is to generate resources. These modules usually require Power to run, and thus, a Power Source is necessary to generate resources. Extractors are a type of module that can be added to existing Outposts, and there is no strict build limit for Extractors aside from the Build Limit covered by the Outpost Beacon.

There are many different types of Extractors available in Starfield Outposts. Some of these extractors need to be constructed on top of a resource vein. A good example is the Benzene extractor, this type on needs to be placed on top of a Benzene resource to begin extraction. These resource veins will be highlighted when you are pre-building any extractor in Build Mode. On the other hand, an Atmospheric Extractor pulls resources from the atmosphere. This means that it is not necessary to construct it on top of a resource vein and can be placed anywhere. However, all Extractors have a radius around them preventing you from Building another Extractor within each other's radius.

Power

  • Solar Array
  • Wind Turbine
  • Fueled Generator

The Power Sources in Starfield Outposts are responsible for generating power and providing that to the Outpost. Each type of Power Source provides a different amount of power and a different type of fuel. Initially, you will have 3 choices for your Power Sources as can be seen on the left panel. Players can choose and customize the type of Power Source that is best suited for that location or planet. Some modules run on power such as Extractors and Defense modules.

Storage

  • Transfer Container
  • Storage (Solid, Liquid, Gas)
  • Warehouse - Small

Construct Storage modules for your Outposts to store any kind of Materials or Resources. Ranging from Organic to Inorganic, and Manufactured Goods, make sure that you will construct the appropriate Storage container for the goods that you want to store. Aside from storing your goods, players can also build a Transfer Container that will let you access the Outpost while on board your ship.

Moving cargo from your Outposts to your ship is made easier by building a Transfer Container. This will allow you to access the cargo of your Outpost from the transfer menu while on board your ship and the good thing is that only one of the Transfer Container can be built per outpost. Moreover, a Transfer Container may still be used like a regular storage by using a Cargo Link and linking it to builders, extractors, containers, or cargo links.

Builders

  • Simple Fabricator

Builders in Starfield modules are a type of building that lets you manufacture simple goods. A Simple Fabricator will let you craft an Adaptive Frame, which is a valuable resource that is used in crafting. Builders need a steady supply of resources such as Iron and Aluminum, aside from Power.

Crafting

  • Industrial Workbench
  • Cooking Station
  • Pharmaceutical Lab
  • Weapon Workbench
  • Spacesuit Workbench
  • Research Lab

Crafting in Starfield is a major aspect of the game's progression and gives players the ability to craft their Weapon and Armor of choice by using various Items or Materials. The Crafting Modules available in the Outposts allows players to construct workbenches that will allow them to do upgrades on their Equipment, Weapons, and more from the comfort of their outposts.

Similarly, players will still need to gather the materials needed which can range from raw minerals extracted from planets to organic substances extracted from alien creatures (Fauna) and plantlife (Flora) to manufactured components that can be made at an Industrial Workbench.

Research plays a major aspect in Starfield's progression. This allows players to learn new mods for their personal weapons and improvements for their ships. Not only that, Crafting in Starfield also grants you access to limitless possibilities in terms of weapon modsaid items, medical supplies, and equipment upgrades.

Defenses

  • Ballistic Turret Mk 1
  • Tick Turret Mk 1
  • Laser Turret Mk 1

One of the modules that you can build on Starfield is the Defense modules. These objects provide defense to your party and usually consume Power to continue operation.  Each type of Defense module is different from each other and requires different resources to construct. Managing your Power supply is essential to maintaining these modules on your Outpost.
