Workbench in Starfield are stations where players can craft materials and install mods to weapons and spacesuits. There are three workbenches that players can interact with when they encounter them throughout the game, the Industrial Workbench, the Weapon Workbench, and the Spacesuit Workbench. These workbenches can be encountered in various planets or moons across all the different Systems.

Types of Workbenches in Starfield

Players can find 3 different types of Workbenches in Starfield, the Industrial Workbench, the Weapon Workbench, and the Spacesuit Workbench. Players can find various workbenches in different locations throughout different Star Systems.

 

What is the Industrial Workbench in Starfield?

The industrial workbench allows players to create basic manufactured components, which can later be used to build structures for players' outposts and crafting mods for their weapons and equipment. Resources are used for manufactured components, players can acquire these resources from planets and moons by crafting structures known as Outposts and setting up Resource Extractors. Players can create more advanced manufactured components from Fabricators at an outpost.

Industrial Workbenches can be identified with the bright yellow accent colors that decorates the table and its machines.

What is the Spacesuit Workbench in Starfield?

The spacesuit workbench allows players to install mods on multiple mod slots onto their helmets, navigator packs, and mining spacesuits. Mods can vary from protection, shielding, and changing the skin of the spacesuits. Players can unlock different crafting recipes to gain access different mods to install onto their suits, materials for the different mod recipes require different resources that players can find through mining or purchasing from Vendors.

Spacesuit Workbenches can be identified by their orange accent color on the table and the table top machines.

What is the Weapon Workbench in Starfield?

The weapon workbench allows players to install mods on multiple mod slots onto their weapons, gaining sights, precision tuning, barrels, skins and more. Players can unlock different recipes to gain the mods to install onto their weapons. Players can acquire the required materials for the recipe from mining on various moons and planets or purchasing from various Vendors.

Weapon Workbenches can be identified with the accent color of blue across the machines on the table, and on the table itself.

How Workbenches Work in Starfield

Different workbenches have different functions in Starfield, and can be found in various locations around the different planets in the different Star Systems. Workbenches aren't found on the players ship, the only stations players can find on their ship is the cooking station, and research lab. Players can find the full set of laboratories and workbenches in the basement of The Lodge, located on Jemison within the Alpha Centauri System.

The Industrial Workbenches allow players to craft manufactured components which can be used as a component in crafting structures such as outposts.

The Spacesuit Workbenches allow players to install various mods onto different mod slots to upgrade and enhance the quality and protection performance, as well as enhancing the appearance of the spacesuit.

Research Labs in Starfield

Research Labs or the Research Laboratory in Starfield have research projects that players can do to allow them to discover different crafting recipes, each research project will require different materials to start the progress for the research projects. When the research projects are completed, players will have full access to the crafting recipes on their respective stations.

Players can access the Research Lab in their ships right next to the Navigation Console, and also use the research Labs when encountered in different locations.
