Temples in Starfield are alien structures scattered across the galaxy that award your character with Powers that help on your journey. Powers are special abilities players can unlock that have diverse uses during combat and allow players to experiment in combat scenarios. This grants them a new tool, besides Weapons, to deal damage or control the battlefield during Combat. Some Powers can even help the player during dialogue or exploration. The player's first Temple, and with it their first Power, is naturally unlocked through the Main Missions. Afterward, the Temples become an optional feature for players and can be done anytime they would like to.

Important Notes about Temples in Starfield:

  1. There appears to be a bug right now where on your first playthrough it will list 3 undiscovered temples regardless of completion at the end game.
  2. Some artifacts will only drop as loot from SPOILER ALERTThe Hunter or The Emissary.
  3. The quest Revelation will award more than one Power.

Starfield Temples Guide

What are Temples in Starfield?

Temples in the game are structural anomalies with the same, but bigger, grav anomaly signatures as the special Artifacts that the player and Constellation as a whole have taken upon themselves to explore, study, and collect. You'll discover later on that these Temples grant anyone able to find them and successfully enter them otherworldly powers. The Starborn are essentially people who have collected multiple Powers from Temples and Artifacts in different universes both before and after having gone through the Unity. While each Temple grants a specific corresponding PowerTemples visually look the same. Each Temple has a corresponding Artifact that shares the same grav anomaly signature.

Temples are marked by distinct anti-gravitational pockets that only encompass their actual structure and a small distance around them. Thus when players visit these Temples, they'll notice they'll look like ruins with debris and other chunks of the structure floating or suspended in mid-air. Finally, all Temples will have an entrance that will be revealed by thin moving pillars lowering down. Inside, large moving rings will react to the player and initiate a puzzle. Once the light puzzle is solved, the rings will stop to form a singular ring, creating a portal of sorts, and players can then move to its center to claim the Power corresponding to the Temple. Each Temple, aside from Temple Eta and the Buried Temple, will also have a Starborn Guardian of the corresponding Temple name attack you after you acquire the Power within.

Where to find Temples in Starfield?

Aside from the first Temple, all other Temples in Starfield are randomly distributed to different Locations upon each playthrough. That being said, they do each maintain their name and the corresponding Power they grant. The first temple Temple Eta will always be found on Procyon III during the Main Mission Into the Unknown. Afterward, Vladimir Sall will inform you whenever he finds more large grav anomaly readings that match the Artifacts you bring back to The Lodge, and you'll be able to visit more Temples through the Mission Power from Beyond. He'll periodically find more Temples and keep reactivating the Mission whenever he does. Barring a few Powers locked in Companion (Barret) and Main Missions, most Powers are obtained this way.  There seems to be a limit to how many times Power from Beyond can be initiated during a playthrough. Players can then choose to visit every single Planets or Moons within Star Systems on foot, to explore them and find anomalies by scanning your surroundings.

The following Temples are not randomized and will always be found on the same Planet on the first playthrough, as encountered in their corresponding Missions:

Starfield Temples in New Game Plus

Temples in the subsequent playthroughs of the game, after players complete their first run, continue to be randomized in terms of where to find them. During a New Game Plus run, players get to keep all their Skills and Powers obtained from the previous run. As such, there will be a chance that you'll encounter the same Temples, albeit in different Locations, as the ones you encountered in your last playthrough. This is not a waste, however, as each Power can be upgraded into an even stronger version of itself for a maximum of ten times. After maxing out a Power, you'll inevitably have a higher chance of encountering the Temples that grant Powers that you don't have yet or have yet to be maxed out.

To find Temples on your New Game Plus, you can choose to not skip the Main Missions and eventually naturally unlock the Mission Power from Beyond once again and start visiting Temples from there like on the first playthrough. Otherwise, you can skip the Main Missions to start the New Game Plus exclusive Mission Among the Stars. One of your objectives there will be to talk to Vladimir, who will show you the Locations for an initial batch of Temples, and also unlock Power from Beyond again so that you can find the others. That being said, there seems to be a limit to how many times you can complete the Mission Power from Beyond, in a single playthrough, so getting your Powers up to the maximum tenth upgrade solely through this Mission will take more than ten New Game Plus playthroughs. Just as before, however, you can find all the Temples by manually exploring and scanning every Moon and Planet on foot within every single Star System, once Vladimir stops giving out the Power from Beyond Missions.

Starfield Temples How to Solve Puzzles

All temples have a flying snake-like puzzle where the player must use its jump pack to grab a conglomeration of dancing lights, each time you grab one a new one will appear until the rotating rings in the middle of the puzzle begin to align and you can fly inside to gain a new Power. Inside the Temple, you will have to approach the moving rings to begin the puzzle and try to look for the first cluster of lights. These can be difficult to see sometimes, given that the rest of the room is full of other twinkling lights, but the cluster you're looking for has a distinct formation.

Once you find them, simply float to them and touch them. This will make the next one appear and you'll simply have to keep doing this to complete the puzzle. When the rings stop moving and align to forma a single ring, you can then float to the middle of it. Doing so will grant you the corresponding Power that the Temple specifically grants. Note that there is no special shortcut to finishing these puzzles during a New Game Plus run, so be ready for a possibly tedious grind if you want to max out all the available Powers.
