Chems in Starfield is a type of Aid Item that restores players' health and benefits players with extra buffs. Aid Items are categorized into Food and Chems, players will also have access to items to repair their Ships. These Chem items can be acquired through scavenging or crafting through Pharmaceutical Labs.

Players can acquire the Science Skill of Chemistry. Some projects do not require players to have the Chemistry skill, while other projects might require players to be at least a minimum of Rank 1 for specific projects.

The Chemistry skill is in the Science Skill tree that allows players to craft Chems items with enhanced performance and enhance the health of players.
This skill is a Tier 3 Science Skill that can be upgraded up to a maximum rank of Rank 4.
How to Acquire Recipes in Starfield
Players can acquire recipes by unlocking and completing projects in the Research Laboratory. Projects require research materials to run the project, once the project is complete, the recipe for the Chems item will be accessible to players in the Pharmaceutical Labs. Some projects can be upgraded within the research tree of the project.
Research Labs in Starfield
The Research Laboratory allows players to start, track, and complete projects in order to gain new recipes to craft, such as Aid Items, materials for Outposts, and weapon mods for equipment and weapons. These projects are then accessible in the various Workbenches, Cooking Stations, and Pharmaceutical Labs.
Players can find the different labs and workbenches in various residential areas, and players' ships, or they can head to the basement of The Lodge for access to the different labs and workbenches.
Pharmaceutical Labs in Starfield
The Pharmaceutical Labs allows players to craft medicinal Aid Items, given that they have the required materials for the recipe to craft. Some of the Chems items will treat certain status effects as well as provide an additional buff to players when using the Chems item.
Players can find pharmaceutical labs in various residential areas, and players' ships, or head over the the basement of The Lodge to find all of the labs and workbenches players might need.
