Food in Starfield is a type of Aid Item that restores players' health. Aid Items are categorized into Food and Chems, players will also come across items to repair their ships as well. These Food items can be acquired through scavenging or crafting through Cooking Stations.

Relevant Skills for Food in Starfield
Players can acquire the Social Skill of Gastronomy or the Physical Skill of Nutrition. Some recipes require players to acquire the minimal rank of rank 1 in these skills, while some recipes do not require players to have these skills to start certain projects.
Gastronomy Skill
The Gastronomy skill is in the Social Skills tree that allows players to gain access to new ingredients and various kinds of recipes players can learn and create.
This skill is a Tier 1 Social Skill and can be upgraded up to a maximum of Rank 4.
Nutrition Skill
The Nutrition skill is in the Physical Skills tree that allows players to enhance the effectiveness of the food item, therefore providing an enhanced buff to the food item.
This skill is a Tier 2 Physical Skill and can be upgraded up to a maximum of Rank 4.
How to Acquire Recipes in Starfield
Players can acquire recipes by unlocking and completing various projects in the Research Laboratory. Projects require materials for it to start and can be upgraded within the research tree of the project. Once the project is completed, the recipe for the Food item will be accessible to players on the Cooking Station.
Research Labs in Starfield
Research Labs allow players to start and track projects for recipes that players can later use to craft in the Pharmaceutical Labs, Cooking Stations, the different equipment Workbenches, and outpost developments.
Players can find all these various labs and workbenches in different residential locations, their ships, or head to the basement of The Lodge to access all of the workbenches.
Cooking Stations in Starfield
The Cooking Station allows players to craft their different types of food and drinks, given that they have the required ingredients for it. Some food items will either recover health in small or large amounts or provide added buffs such as carry capacity or a sort of resistance.
Players can find cooking stations in various residential locations, ships, or head offer to the basement of The Lodge to find all of the labs and workbenches players might need.
