Back to the Grind is a Faction Mission in Starfield. Back to the Grind tasks you with getting a job at one of Starfield's major factions - Ryujin Industries. Completing Missions allows players to learn more about the world and characters in Starfield. Players can take on Main Missions which progress the main story forward, and other types of optional secondary missions that do not. Faction Missions are exclusive assignments issued by certain Factions, each of which contributes to the player's relationship with the corresponding Faction and progress the group's storyline. Completing Missions earns players experience, Weapons, Armor, and other types of loot.
While roaming the city, I heard a job advertisement for Ryujin Industries. I should find a Ryujin kiosk nearby if I'd like to apply for the job.

Starfield Back to the Grind Walkthrough
When you walk by a Ryujin Industries Kiosk, you'll hear the announcer speak about an employment opportunity at the company. Approach the kiosk and click the Job Application option. After completing the questionnaire, you'll be asked to visit the Ryujin Tower in Neon to get an interview. When you're ready, head to the Spaceport to board the Frontier. Neon can be found at Volii Alpha in the Volii System. If you haven't made any upgrades to the Frontier, you will have to first jump to the Olympus System before making it to the Volii System.
When you arrive at the Volii System, your ship will be scanned for contraband by a Freestar Ranger Ship similar to when you first arrived at the Alpha Centauri System. After you've been scanned, you'll be free to touchdown at Neon. Pass through the checkpoint and take the elevator at the end down into the heart of Neon. Follow the quest marker to your left to reach the Ryujin Towers, then take the elevator here to the Operations floor.
Though optional, you can first speak to Lane Garza, the receptionist, who'll give you directions to Imogene Salzo's office. If you need help getting there, he offers to walk you there himself. Once you get there, take a seat to start your job interview with Imogene Salzo. How she words her questions may be affected by how you answered the questionnaire earlier. Answers that show enthusiasm, direction, and good knowledge of the company will get you favorable responses from her. These answers are examples of the ones you can take for each question to get a good response:
- Neuroamps are revolutionary. I want to be a part of what's next.
- [Persuasion] I can make any deal happen
- I'll go above and beyond to get the job done.
- Research and development. I want to play a part in the future of technology.
At the end of the interview, you'll be hired and be asked to pick up some coffee from TerraBrew. Exit the Ryujin Tower and follow your quest marker straight ahead to find TerraBrew. There'll be a line, so follow Imogene's instructions and skip it to tell the cashier about the order. When she asks what happened to the previous errand boy, Tomo, he'll come and interrupt your conversation. Apparently, he recently got fired after working at Ryujin Industries for four years and you filled in his spot. Tomo will get riled up and eventually pulls a gun on you. You can either choose to attack him or to persuade him to put his gun down.
If you have Sarah as a companion during this Mission, she will approve of Persuading him to back down. You will have three turns to earn 4 persuasion 'points'. If you fail the persuasion option, Tomo will become hostile and you'll have to take him down. Below are the choices that give you persuasion 'points':
- You're throwing your life away here. (+2)
- Look, I get it. You've got your orders, I've got mine. (+1) (May only work after choosing the option 'You're throwing your life away here' first)
- I'm highly trained. You attack me, you die. (+2)
- We can ***h walk away from this. (+2)
These are example of choices that will not net you any points:
- We can work this out. I know it.
- Just put the gun down.
- I know there's a way to get past this.
If you manage to talk him down, Tomo will insist that Ularu will one day ask you to take him out and hopes that you think twice about doing it. If you agree, Sarah will approve of your answer and Tomo will walk away peacefully. Pick up the coffee order and return to Imogene at Ryujin Tower. She'll ask you what the hold up was, and no matter how you answer, will know what happened at TerraBean. Because of how you handled the situation, you're getting a promotion on your first day.
Leave Imogene's office and make your way to the meeting room to get to know your new colleagues hand everyone their coffee. There you'll meet Alexis Pryce, Camden Cho, Genevieve Monohan, and Linden Calderi. When you're done, return to Imogen for your reward, as well as your next job.
