Craft or Modify an Item is an Activity in Starfield. Craft or Modify an Item introduces players to the Crafting system in the game, which can be done from a Workbench. Activities are additional tasks and interactions players can choose to participate in to learn about the characters and locations in Starfield. These are straightforward objectives that are shorter than the Main Missions you do to progress the main story. Completing Activities can lead to new activities or earn you rewards. These Side Missions enrich the lore of the game while presenting optional NPCs, Enemies, or Bosses that are not directly tied to the main storyline. Completing Missions earns players experience, Weapons, Armor, and other types of loot.

  

How to unlock Craft or Modify an Item in Starfield

Craft or Modify an Item can be unlocked by the following NPC or the following actions:

  • Craft or Modify an Item is located on Jemison within the Alpha Centauri System. 
  • Speak to Walter Stroud after sorting your quarters in the Lodge.

Speak to Walter Stroud after listening to the meeting in the Lodge once you arrive at Jemison New Atlantis. He will eventually officially introduce himself and encourage you to make tools for them. 

Approach any Workbench. There will be a Pharmaceutical Lab, Weapon Workbench, and a Spacesuit Workbench on the lower floors of the Lodge. These serve as stations for crafting and modding items. 

Choose a mod to install on your item of choice or Craft an Item at the Pharmaceutical Lab to fulfill this objective.
