Talk to the Scientist by the Tree is an Activity in Starfield. Talk to the Scientist by the Tree is an early activity that you can participate in in the game. Activities are additional tasks and interactions players can choose to participate in to learn about the characters and locations in Starfield. These are straightforward objectives that are shorter than the Main Missions you do to progress the main story. Completing Activities can lead to new activities or earn you rewards. These Side Missions enrich the lore of the game while presenting optional NPCs, Enemies, or Bosses that are not directly tied to the main storyline. Ricardo Bosch will be standing outside with a group of security standing outside at the Spaceport near the security checkpoint when you arrive at New Atlantis. They notice a scientist out in front of MAST. 

Look for the scientist by the tree at the MAST District. If you are a distance away, you can take the Transit Car to travel there. Track the quest from your Missions menu to mark your objective or view the location on your map. Once you reach your destination, the Scientist you are looking for should also be marked with a quest marker. This will lead you to Kelton Frush. Speak to him to fulfill the objective. This begins the mission: A Tree Grows in New Atlantis
