Barrett is a Companion and Recruitable Crew Member in Starfield. Barrett is a member of Constellation and you'll first encounter him at the beginning of the game. Companions in Starfield are special NPCs that may join you along your journey. They have their unique personality, starting equipment, abilities, and moral compass. This may make your actions collide with them, leading you to confront or align them with your decisions. Barret is one of only four Companions that can be romanced.

In order to get Barrett to join you, you have to:
- Your first encounter of Barrett is at the beginning of the game, during the Main Mission, "One Small Step".
How to Romance & Marry Barrett in Starfield
Always Travel and Speak to Barrett
- To romance Barrett, you always have to travel with him when you can. Before trying to speak with him, always do a quicksave. It is crucial to quickly load up that save whenever you select a dialogue he dislikes. When speaking with Barrett, always keep in mind never to bring up his past husband, but just wait until he shares info with you. Also, remember to make jokes around him when dialogue options appear. Lastly, always remember to pick the [FLIRT] / [ROMANCE] / [COMMITMENT] options when they pop up.
Always do the Missions related to Barrett:
- Once you progress talking with Barrett, he will eventually give you the Miscellaneous mission "Breach of Contract" which involves you funding and helping out Barret with an investigation of his late husband's death. It will take some time before you can progress even further, but once you reach a certain point, you will complete his mission "Breach of Contract", at the end of that mission, you will get to choose the [ROMANCE] option, making you two in a relationship.
Commitment towards Barrett in Starfield
- After the mission and some playtime and traveling with Barrett, he will eventually ask to talk to you. It will prompt the [COMMITMENT] dialogue option. It will indicate that you have proposed to Barrett, and he will automatically accept your proposal. You can't get married right away, so take some time to travel together.
How to Marry Barrett in Starfield?
- After some playtime and traveling with Barrett, he will eventually ask to talk to you again. It will prompt the "Commitment: Barrett" mission. This will then make you two a married couple upon completion.
