Starfield Breach of Contract Walkthrough

Barrett will open up about his late husband's past. As you talk to him and support his investigation into Ervin's suspicious death, you'll gather enough evidence to tackle the "Breach of Contract" mission on Gagarin in the Alpha Centauri system. Gagarin is the second planet from the system's sun. Once you land on Gagarin, find Barrett and start your mission to clear Ervin's name. Begin by speaking to Ellie Yankton in her office. Head straight into Gagarin, take the first right past Terrabrew, and then a left at the ramp. Climb the stairs, and you'll reach the Yankton Law Offices. Barrett will be inside, ready to talk to Ellie. Start the conversation. Ellie will express surprise that you and Barrett followed through and visited her. You can ask her questions about Gagarin and the past or dive into the case. Barrett will review the information you've gathered and the lies surrounding the case. Continue to explore and check the previously provided details. Ellie will reveal that the current evidence is circumstantial and won't hold up in court. She clarifies that finding more evidence could clear Ervin's name, return his assets, and provide additional compensation. Offer to find more evidence to establish a motive and continue the mission.

Your next task is to locate the mine where Ervin worked 20 years ago. You'll need a passcode to enter. While searching for the passcode, remember there's a chance for a romantic moment with Barrett. Follow the waypoint northeast to the "Foundry District." Check the table to the left of the Foundry Terminal for a magazine if you haven't already. Access the terminal, and you'll find options for Guest, your character's account, and Admin. Use your account and click "View my Paychecks" for accessible 1000 credits. Unfortunately, you can't search the database as an Argos Extractor employee. You can ask around for the mine passcode or try selecting "Admin" if it's available, which grants access to the database. Click the filters (no other options here) to get the mine coordinates. Hold the props to exit. Talk to Barrett to confirm the coordinates, and remember to visit Ervin's apartment before heading to the mine.

Ervin's apartment is on the west side of Gagarin. Climb the stairs to the door, and Barrett will provide you with the apartment key for Apartment Stack 1. It's quite a mess inside, with storage boxes, some unlocked and others locked. Look for Ervin's Foundry Passcode in the sealed storage box at the top left. Move further into the apartment, and Barrett will mention a safe on the wall locked by a terminal. You'll find it in the bedroom and a cactus marked as an objective. Grab the cactus and access the terminal. Now, it's time to visit Town Hall on the east side of town, near the memorial statue. Access the Town Hall Terminal and select the "Town Hall" file on the desktop. Navigate to Applications > Check Application Status > [Enter Ervin's Application ID] to find the needed evidence. Barrett will debrief you on what you've discovered. You can deliver the evidence to the lawyer, but there's still more investigating. Board your ship and travel to HephaestusMine H-363. As you approach, you'll encounter some Juvenile Pests. Head to the north side of the facility grounds to find a locked room near machinery and lockpick your way in. Inside, you'll find various resources, including credit sticks and digipicks. Enter the mining facility and deal with some adult pests. Grab the "Miner's Journal" note on the desk and a Medical Kit and Pharma Kit next to the door.

Continue through the facility, following the waypoint to an office. Loot the area and approach the terminal, where you'll find memos and notes. If you've successfully hacked the Admin section, you'll unlock Helgi and Ervin's research stations. Otherwise, you'll need to open them individually. Head upstairs and use the lift to go down into the mine. Be cautious, as you'll encounter more pests. Follow the path through the rocky part of the mine and deal with the pests along the way. You'll reach Helgi's station, where Barrett will point out alien eggs nearby. You can explore the cave for valuable resources or access the terminal to gather information. Remember to check the big storage chest before leaving. Return to your ship and head to Gagarin Landing. Now, you have a wealth of information about the case. Return to Ellie's office, where she'll be impressed with your progress. However, Ellie mentions the need for Helgi as a witness, and that's a challenge since he didn't show up as a witness before. Ellie suggests finding character witnesses since Helgi's behavior has been strange.

You can't find Helgi just by searching Gagarin. You'll need to gather information from the townsfolk. Next, speak with Dr. Kaela at the Med Clinic, located by the big plus sign outside the building. Barrett will take the lead in the conversation. Dr. Kaela hints about Helgi stacking boxes around "Clint's store." If you ask her to be a character witness, be careful not to inquire about confidential patient information. Now, visit Clint's Collections, a shop near the spaceport, and talk to Clint. He reveals that Helgi is in debt to him. You can pay 4000 credits to cover Helgi's debts or persuade Clint for information. It's recommended to save your money and try persuasion. Clint directs you to Lizzy's bar, where Helgi might be found. Avoid asking Clint to be a character witness due to his debt to Clint. Follow the waypoint to Lizzy's bar and talk to Lizzy.

Again, you can pay 4,000 credits or persuade her to go to Helgi's location. After successful persuasion, she'll send you the coordinates to Helgi's site. You can ask her to be a character witness, but it's unnecessary. Remember that you can only find Helgi if you speak to the townsfolk first. The room will be empty if you go straight there. Helgi's location coordinates lead you to a space below Town Hall. Inside, you'll find Helgi Hauksson. Begin a conversation and persuade him to testify. Be cautious not to reveal confidential information from Dr. Kaela. If you've gathered all the evidence, it will make persuading Helgi easier.

After convincing him, return to Ellie and select Dr. Kaela as your character witness. After discussing the case with Ellie, talk to Barrett to decide whether you want to pursue a romantic relationship with him or remain friends.
