The United Colonies is a Faction in Starfield. The United Colonies Faction carries influence over the Alpha Centauri System. The United Colonies are one of the major Factions of the Settled Systems. Players can get a chance to join this Faction early on in the game since one of your Companions, Sarah Morgan, will have ties to the Faction. Join the UC Vanguard to gain the achievement: Supra et Ultra.
Applications to join the Vanguard can be submitted directly from the MAST building, or players can speak to Commander John Tuala to gain their first objectives. Motivated applicants will then be given UC citizenship. Factions are organizations or groups that control or have influence over specific territories and Star Systems. Each Faction has its own set of values and beliefs that are implemented into how they run as a group.

- How to Join the United Colonies: Players will have the opportunity to join the United Colonies while progressing through Main Missions. You can also ask Sarah Morgan about the UC Vanguard to gain more information. Speak to Commander John Tuala within the MAST building in the MAST District on New Atlantis, Jemison, in the Alpha Centauri System. He will tell you about the next steps to become a UC Vanguard. These objectives will also be listed in the Faction Mission: Supra Et Ultra. Players will need to follow up with some registration, orientation, and exams. Head up to the Vanguard Orientation Hall and start your registration by going through the Enlistment Agreement followed by the Exam. This will get you started with the Faction. You will then be able to proceed as a provisional member.

- For a better standing with this Faction, players can select the United Colonies Native Trait which can be selected from Character Creation. With this trait, you gain access to special United Colonies dialogue options and better rewards from some missions given by the faction. However, crime bounty by other factions is greatly increased.
- The Vanguard is the UC volunteer fleet. Independent captains can enlist and use their own ship while the UC provides them with sustained work and credits.
- The motto of the Vanguard is "Supra et Ultra" - above and beyond. That is where we serve - beyond the furthest reaches of the United Colonies military, and with honor and duty above reproach.
- According to Tuala, put in your time and you're guaranteed UC citizenship and everything that comes with it- discounts on UC goods and medical services, and a chance to town a place in New Atlantis.
- As a player, you can then align yourself with one or multiple Factions to gain additional Missions and Rewards from them and gain access to additional benefits and Locations. Factions you don't have an alliance with have a chance to be hostile against you when entering their territory and can potentially put a bounty on you. You can join Factions by accepting and completing Faction Missions which will contribute to the player's relationship with a faction and progress the storyline of the group.
