Mantis is a Miscellaneous Mission in Starfield that begins when you find a clue that will lead you to the Secret Outpost. Completing this mission will reward you with the Legendary Mantis Spaceship and Legendary Mantis Gear. Missions allow players to learn more about the world and characters in Starfield. Players can take on Main Missions which progress the main story forward, and other types of optional secondary missions that do not. Miscellaneous Missions are side quests that do not affect your relationship with any Faction or progress the main story. Completing Missions earns players experience, Weapons, Armor, and other types of loot.

How to unlock Mantis in Starfield

Mantis can be unlocked by the following NPC or the following actions:

• The first step to unlock the Mantis Mission is to obtain a clue about the location of a secret outpost in Starfield. The name of this note is 'Secret Outpost!' Our gathered data tells us that this rare data slate is randomly dropped by a Spacer enemy. Spacer enemies are mercenaries that will randomly show up all over the Star Systems.
• The rare data slate 'Secret Outpost!' that we obtained was found from a Spacer in the Medical Ward of the Nova Galactic Staryard docked next to Luna in the Sol System. The Nova Galactic Staryard is naturally explored during the Main Mission The Old Neighborhood.
• The data slate is found randomly but given the amount of Spacers that you will encounter while exploring, you are bound to loot the rare data slate in a matter of time from one of the fallen spacers.

Starfield Lair of Mantis Rewards

The Mantis is a secret mission in Starfield and its rewards are enough to get explorers traveling far and beyond. During this secret mission, players will be able to obtain the Mantis Gear (3-set armor) and the Mantis Ship. If you are wondering what or who Mantis is, Mantis turns out to be a legendary bounty hunter named Doriane Voclain. Mantis is a legendary figure, known as the guardian among the systems and goes after anyone who hurts the innocents.

The Mantis set is considerably heavier than most gear that you will find in Starfield. However, these pieces of gear offer 3 irresistible perks making the entire set useful as you travel and go on expeditions during the early to mid-game. Each piece also gives you great damage and environmental protection. 

The Mantis Set can be found inside the Lair of Mantis, including the Mantis Spaceship called Razorleaf. During the mission, details of Mantis's mission reveal that the set, spaceship, and namesake are passed along from one person to the next. If you manage to complete the puzzle and reach this area, you will obtain everything you need to become Mantis.

Let's talk about the Razorleaf or the Mantis spaceship. This is a really sweet reward for a relatively easy mission that can help players out from early to mid-game. This light vessel offers great combat capabilities compared to the first ship that you get in Starfield, the Frontier, and has enough room for light cargo and a small crew.

Another thing to note when you're flying with the Razorleaf, known mercenaries such as Spacers will flee when they spot your ship, as they will recognize it as belonging to Mantis, the famed bounty hunter. This means that you might miss out on some fights that could benefit you in terms of loot and XP.

How to get Mantis Set and Legendary Spaceship in Starfield

The first step to get the rewards for Mantis' mission is to obtain a clue about the location of a secret outpost. This is typically obtained from any fallen Spacer, and they will drop a note named 'Secret Outpost!'. Once you have this note, a new mission will be unlocked for you called 'Mantis' and you will get the objective 'Read the Secret Outpost slate'.

Do this by pulling up your inventory, then, scroll down to the Notes section and select the slate that you just obtained to unlock the next objective: 'Travel to Denebola I-B'. You will have a new marker on your map and travel there. The Secret Outpost landing is located near the south pole of the planet- choose that landing location.

When you get to the Outpost, you will find mercenaries, also known as Spacers roaming about. Make sure to eliminate any threats that you see to safely head inside the outpost and explore the Lair of Mantis where great rewards await you.

How to Solve Lair of Mantis Puzzle Starfield

 Once you get inside the Secret Outpost, you'll be fighting more Spacers who are guarding the area. In the meantime, explore the outpost as you eliminate the threats and loot locked safes inside. This is part of the 3rd objective: Infiltrate and Explore Lair of Mantis and an optional objective is to 'Learn more about the Lair of the Mantis'.

This objective will mark Spacers on your map, and then you will pick up audio logs from them as you defeat them. The logs from these Spacers reveal the story of a mother who had a love for adventure and was trying to pass along the Mantis Suit and Spaceship to her son. Eventually, as you explore the Lair of Mantis, you will encounter a Spacer that is not hostile immediately, named Livvey.

This man tells you of the puzzle and a trap that has killed many of his faction, and has warned you that you might end up with the same fate. Follow our guide below to make sure that you can solve the Lair of the Mantis puzzle easily.

Lair of the Mantis Puzzle Solution

In the next hallway after speaking to Livvey, you will find eight rows of tile each representing a letter. The goal here is to enter the password to get across this section of the Lair of the Mantis. From the tile closest to you, spell out T-Y-R-A-N-N-I-S. If you're wondering where this answer came from, this is from the audio logs that you picked up from the marked spacers with the Latin phrase 'Sic Semper Tyrannis' which can be translated to 'thus always to tyrants'.

After the puzzle, you will find yourself closer to the real Lair of the Mantis as you fight robots and turrets guarding this area. You will also see messages along the way and make sure to pick them up and listen to them to complete the optional objective. Once you are inside the lair, make your way to the left side to enter the cave-like section of the lair. Upon entering, you will get two new objectives: 'Claim the Mantis' Spacesuit' and 'Claim the Mantis' Starship'.

The Mantis Spacesuit can be found inside a display case on the left corner of the room. You can open this by interacting with the mannequin and you can easily obtain it. Next, walk to the ship's bay and interact with the panel. This will reveal the Mantis' ship and will bring the light vessel to the surface.

To claim the Razorleaf, head into the platform outside the Secret Outpost, inside the Razorleaf you will find more items to loot throughout. Make sure to wear the Mantis' set inside the ship to get access to the hidden armory inside the Razorleaf.

Starfield Mantis Walkthrough

• To get this side mission, you need to find and read the data slate "Secret Outpost!". Which can be found on random spacer enemies. 
• Head to Denebola I-b after you read "Secret Outpost!". (The secret outpost cannot be discovered before you read the Data Slate.)
• The outpost is guarded by spacer scums so be prepared for heavy fight. Get inside the outpost, and clear your way through the building. There's an NPC Livvey who can hint you about how to solve the floor puzzle. 
• In order to pass the puzzle room without getting shot, step on the following panels: T-Y-R-A-N-N-I-S. Alternatively, you can hack the computer to the right of the puzzle room entrance (Rank 3 Security Skill).
• There are several turrets and robots guarding the Lair of the Mantis. Use your best weapons to wipe them out.
• Once you cleared all the enemies, you can claim Mantis Spacesuit Set and Ship. (Mantis' ship Razorleaf is worth 124100 credits and has a Shielded Cargo Hold.)

• The layout of the Lair of the Mantis reminds us of Batman, an iconic superhero created by DC Comics. You will find the resemblance in the structure of the cave, similar to the Batcave, including the suit and spaceship.
